OUTLINE Activities Voice from President NESN

Here are our annual major activities.
You can see more detailed reports for those activities in red. These achievements were made in 2007-2010.
 
Translation
Ø Topic Albums (Year-round) Translating albums made by Japanese pupils and high school students into English and those made by non-Japanese pupils and students in English into Japanese. Through these activities, we help the children foster friendly relations between them.
Ø Medical and welfare articles/documents International news (Japanese- English, year-round), mail magazines on culture and education of the deaf (year-round), other requested documents by local clients.

Picture Book Translation
Ø Picture book (Year-round) Attaching English translation to the picture books published in Japan for children in Asian and African countries.

Interpretation
Ø Lecture on landmines in Uganda (Japanese-English simultaneous translation, July 2007) Interpreted a lecture made by a speaker who encountered a landmine accident on his experience and activities.
Ø Hosting foreign interns at Blood Centre Japanese-English, requested by Japanese Red Cross Blood Centre, August and September 2007

Language Teaching
Ø Teaching English language at facilities for physically/mentally impaired persons (Year-round)

ØAssisting a course “Vocational rehabilitation and the disabled”, JICA
ØAssisting a stall at Friendship Festival, US Yokota Air Base

ØReading examination questions on IT, required by Prometric Co., Ltd.

Accessible Tokyo
Ø Wheelchair training Offering newcomers opportunities to learn how to use wheelchairs necessary for them to acquire to give personal assistance/guide
Ø Distributing “Accessible 2005” and manage the website of “Accessible” Offering information about facilities in Tokyo by booklet and website to enable disabled people to comfortably enjoy sightseeing and shopping
Ø Public facility research May 29 Facility research at Tokyo Midtown

International Exchange
Ø 12th November 2010: Welcome Party
Ø 13th November 2010 : Started chapter workshops
Ø 20th~23rd November 2010: International Exchange Meeting
Ø 24th November 2010: Sightseeing in Tokyo & Farewell Party
Ø 25th November 2010: Send -off at New Tokyo International Airport
An international event hosted by Japanese Red Cross Society. Senior high school students from 24 countries in Asia-Pacific region and Japan participated in a camp at Gotemba, Shizuoka Prefecture and discuss various issues surrounding juveniles.
In the 2010 fiscal year, the event was held for 4 days from 20th to23rd November in Gotemba.

8 training sessions were held in the 2010 fiscal year in order to facilitate 3 targets:
  • To Understand in the philosophy of Red Cross: the Japanese Red Cross Language Service Volunteers (LSV) was originally formed under the principle that we perform humanitarian work which meets Red Cross’ ideal through activities, and cultivate volunteers with global view (the LSV byelaw Article 3).
  • To promote better understanding of voluntary activities.
  • To learn skills that is helpful and/or necessary for the LSV activities: assisting wheelchair users/the visually impaired/the hearing-impaired, interpretation, translation and ensuring compliance with International Humanitarian Law
